What do you think of this .. its my perswaysive paragraph for school bout eating disorders?how should it end?“Mirror, Mirror, on the wall, who’s the fattest one of all…”. Eating disorders affect millions of people each year, and thousands of them die. Serious cases could cause death or serious sickness. Eating Disorders are most likely controlled by past experiences they could not control [i.e. – Rape, Molestation, death.. ect.]. People often compare themselves/body image to the media [eg. Movie stars, or fairytales], but we’re not living in a fairytale and we don’t have a magic mirror on the wall. Sometimes people think that there are no other side effects of eating disorders except weight loss, but its actually not just a quick diet. Eating disorders including; [Bulimia Nervosa, Anorexia Nervosa, Binge eating disorder] are not diets, they are serious common diseases. Binge eating disorder is when a person is feeling guilt, shame, humility and just really depressed, they drown their feelings out with food. But, although binge is like bulimia, people with binge eating disorder do not use the different forms of purging [e.g. puking, laxatives, fasting ect.] Symptoms of this disorder include; •weight gain • low self-esteem. •Going on many different diets •avoidance of social situations where food will be present •suicidal thoughts Bulimia Nervosa is most like Binge eating disorder, Except people with Bulimia purge, getting rid of any unwanted calories. Many peoples binge changes from different ranges 1000 to 10000 calories at a time. At this point they are abusing vomiting and laxatives. Bulimics are aware that they have a problem but are unsecure about their appearance. Some Symptoms of bulimia are; •vomiting •use of laxatives, diet pills, or diuretic abuse •swollen glands •muscle weakness •Ipecac abuse •substance abuse •mood swings Anorexia Nervosa is an increasing problem with men, and happens with most women. They often have a fear of becoming obese, so they make themselves take many diets and decrease their weight. Anorexics eat too little, are way too skinny. 10 to 20% of people with anorexia will die from complications related to this problem, and will probably suffer from cardiac arrest, to death. Medical complications include; Cold hands and feet, fatigue and lack of energy, kidney and liver damage, Dehydration, decreased metabolic rate ect. Some symptoms of anorexia is; •Depression, irritability, mood swings •Excessive exercise •Muscle weakness •Excuses for not eating meals (ie. ate earlier, not feeling well) •Unusual eating habits (ie. cutting food into tiny pieces, picking at food) •Evidence of vomiting, laxative abuse, diet pills or diuretics to control weight
