Cholesterol FAQ
My mother has VERY high cholesterol, yet she won't diet or exercise!?
Since she has been in her 20's, she has consistently had high cholesterol (270+), and her doctors have told her that she needs to get it under control, but she denies that she has it. Now, she has had 3 separate FASTING CHOLESTEROL tests, so that she can't use the excuse, Oh, it must have been what I ate that day. Still, she will not change the way she eats. She eats cookies, chips, ice cream, cheese, etc. on a DAILY basis, and then tries to say that she was 'good' and had a salad....... even though she uses over 1/2 cup of fatty dressing on the salad! I keep telling her that she needs to do something NOW, and not when she has her first heart attack or stroke, but because she is still relative young (40), and 'healthy,' nothing that I say sinks in. Is there anything I can do?!?!?! Thanks, I'll pick a best answer TODAY!
What does cholesterol mean?I know what it means, but I recently read an article that surprised me. At first I thought cholesterol meant fat, and that it's found in all bad foods no matter what type, sweets, dairy, junk food etc. But then after reading this article I found out that cholesterol is found only in products of animal origin 0_0 But then there's another thing I don't understand... if cholesterol is found only in meat and other animal products, how could a vegetarian have a high cholesterol? I've done a blood test a while ago and the results showed that my cholesterol level was slightly higher than it should've been. And I hate meat, no matter what type. I can't stand it, I rarely eat it, and when I do I'm only doing it because I'm obligated... So how is this possible? Can anyone explain this to me please?
What are my chances of getting cancer?I don't smoke. I'm about 60 lbs overweight. I have 2 children and I'm slightly stressed. My blood pressure is fine, my blood sugar, iron etc... are great. No cholesterol. My father died of liver cancer at 58. His father died of stomach cancer at 51. My dad's half brothers died of 1) cirrhosis of the liver (54) and 1) stomach cancer (72). My dad's natural brother died last night (63) of Hodgkin's lymphoma (another type of cancer). However, my grandmother (dad side)died at 91 of old age and her daughter (my dad's sister)is still living and very well (67). What's your opinion?

Kellogg's Fiber Plus Antioxidents- WHY is eating fiber too addicting to the body? Help.?Hello- I have been trying to improve my cholesterol (LDL), get in shape, lose some weight, and create an overall better eating style. I have purchased Kellogg's Fiber Plus Antioxidents Bars. For those who have never tried them, they are amazing. They are new to the market I believe. It has 9 g of fiber in one bar. Anyway... I began to research fiber because i'm trying to educate myself on eating right. And one article stated this : It is best to get fiber from natural foods, not fiber pills as they contain little fiber and can be addictive to the colon. Fiber-containing foods are much better choices as they not only provide fiber, but important nutrients as well. My question is- does anyone know WHY this can be addicting to the colon? I have been eating one bar per day. I do not want to screw up my body if I decide to stop my diet. http://www.thedietchannel.com/Fiber-Intake-Daily-Amount.htm
