How are Sotalol levels measured?

I'm trying to work out how Sotalol levels would be measured in the body. I've read that Sotalol does not bind to plasma proteins sooo I am right in thinking that this means that the usual way of measuring levels of medication in the body (through blood plasma, if I've understood what I've read correctly....) wouldn't work for Sotalol. So how is Sotalol transported around the body and how is it measured?

I would like ro know whether this drug is used to slow the pulse rate or whether it is used to lower high blood pressure?

are there any side efects to this medication> if so what are they>

I have a non-chronic A-Fip in my heart, I take Sotalol and it seems to keep the problem under control. I have been hospitalized twice for it, both times for a week. Otherwise I'm healthy, strong as an ox, and have a good head on my shoulders. I am also a couple months away from EMT-Paramedic. I have decided to spend my life becoming a career firefighter, my question is how badly is my heart condition going to hurt my chances?
