Indomethacin FAQ

When is an abscess considered a dental emergency? I have severe pain, HIV and antibiotics..?

I'm 19, I noticed pain coming in waves starting 3 days ago as soon as I woke up. Didn't do anything about it, pain gradually got to the point where I couldnt help but cry as I waited in Emergency Medi-Clinic. Yesterday got some antibiotics (Clyndamycin) The pain was okay today until 30 min ago, I had my first meal of the day, and the pain is back with a vengeance!! I've beeen taking Tylenol 2's, Orajel, and Indomethacin for pain. Please help, should I go to emergency room? or call a dentist for emergency procedures or what??!

Hemicrania Continua medication called Indomethacin?

This is a self diagnosis, so please be patient. I have had this headache since I was 11 years old. I am now 20. I have been through every test available, and nothing showed up to explain this pain. I have tried many different medications, most do nothing, some work for a time. I was researching different types of headaches, mostly because I'm tired up being brushed off by doctors who have given up. I found a type of headache that seems most like the type that I have. There are even a few symptoms that I have, that I didn't associate with my headaches. I am going to my doctors this week, armed with all the information I can find on the headache and the drug that treats it, but I'm hoping that there is someone with experience that can give me some advice. Like I said, I've had the pain for 9 years. It has been constant, except for the times when I med has worked for a period of time. It focuses in my forehead around my eyes and just above my eyebrows. When the pain gets extremely bad it sends a sharp pain back about a fingers length into my head. The pain never goes away, it just goes from bad to worse. I have blackouts (not losing time, losing vision) that usually last 2-3 minutes, but have begun lasting up to 10 minutes. The symptom that I didn't associate is the nose problems. I constantly have either a stuffy or runny nose. I have no allergies, and only very rarely get a cold. I get no stomach problems (ie nauseau) with the pain, but it can get so bad that I am laying in a dark room in agony over the slightest sound or light. It is not a clinical migraine, and all scans and tests show up fine. I was recently on Oxycontin for the pain. I stopped that about 4 weeks ago, for 2 reasons. About 6 weeks ago, the pain began getting increasingly worse, and then 4 weeks ago, I ran out of money. I couldn't justify spending money for bills on a medication that stopped working. A couple days ago I ended up in the hospital, and they gave me Torodol. I was on this med before, after another trip to the hospital, and a WONDERFUL doctor who decided to try me on IV Torodol. It took the pain away 100% for the first time in 8 years. I was on Torodol pills for 4 months before it stopped working. It was working again, but today the pain is back. My main question is how dangerous is the drug that is supposed to control it? It's called indomethacin. I think it's worth it to try, but knowing my doctor, she'll come up with a reason why it's pointless to try. She's convinced I'm depressed, and this is the cause for my headaches. Tell me, if you were in constant pain from age 11-20. If you had to drop out of school, and couldn't do the things you want to do, would you not be a little bit unhappy??? I will be the first to admit, my mood is not the best. But it's not the cause, it's the result. If the pain is gone, I literally dance down the street on my way home. I clean the entire house, go for 3 hour walks, thoroughly enjoy EVERYTHING around me. But she's stuck on this one thing, and is unwilling to try other things. I don't want to get my hopes up. Please tell me if you know any reason why they will try to avoid giving me this medication. But please, don't just tell me how dangerous all the other meds are. I know they can be addictive, I know they can alter your mindset. I understand it's dangerous to treat, but I'm tired of sitting in the dark. I want my life back. Also, if anyone knows any REALLY good headache clinics anywhere in Ontario, preferably around Toronto or surrounding areas, can you please let me know. I'm tired of this. I want to know the cause, and I want to fix it.
