How does blood pressure med hydrochlorothiazide work to cause diabetes?

I had been taking hydrochlorotiazine for at least a year when I found out I had diabetes. I have no family history of diabetes; I exercise regularly; I ONLY eat good fats; I don't like sweets and I have been on a gluten-free diet for the past ten years. Needless to say, I was quite astonished to find out I had come down with diabetes at age 27! Now I come to find out that the medication I was taking--atacand, contains hydrochlorothiazine and CAUSES diabetes. But it also states that it may reversible on its own--which was not the case for me. Your explanation about being likely to develop diabetes doesn't make any sense. People in these studies were put on other hypertensive drugs and the effect was reversed. The question should be Why give people who are likely to develop diabetes a drug that is likely to cause diabetes? I think the answer is clear: they just want to make more money....

I'm a kidney stone producing machine and just found out what triggers the deficiency on citric acids and overproduction of calcium in my body. Urologist prescribed a high blood pressure drug called Hydrochlorothiazide (I have low blood pressure) to reduce the production of calcium and a citric acid supplement I'm really not sure as if I should take this. I have to inject myself with B12 on a monthly basis which I need because I can't produce it anymore myself and found out that this reduces the citric level. Then I came across Hypothyroidism and wonder if that is the reason for the high calcium production? Does anyone have suggestions on how I should approach the treatment or know about natural ways to get this in control? I do a low oxalate diet and avoid foods triggering my symptoms.

I have high blood pressure that is now controlled with meds. (Hydrochlorothiazide) which is a diuretic, the Dr. said that my potassium levels are now too low. I am on 20 MEG 1 time a day. He said it is still too low. He told me to take 60 MEG (3 pills a day) for two days and I felt strange twinges in my chest. I had blood work done and the Dr. said it is still dangerously low. I don't understand why. Now he wants me to take 80MEG (4 pills a day for two days) even after I said I felt strange. I was told that my potassium should not be that low and that it is dangerous and I better take them I have an appointment tomorrow. I don't want to go, I want to find a new Dr. but I will go tomorrow and see what he says. But I want to know what are some problems from too much potassium. I am trying to watch my weight and bought a juicer, lost 5 lbs. but having lots of cucumber, apple, strawberry, pineapple, carrot, grape, melon, spinach, juices. I do 2~3 veggies and 1 fruit. lots of different combinations. So with all that, how can it be so low!? Thanks for any help! Well, I took all 4 of the potassium and ended up having palpitations. Called the Dr. and he said I should not have taken that many if I had been feeling strange like I said before. I was not happy. The girl on the phone never even mentioned it to him or asked him if I should take all 4 even after I told her I felt strange. So I went to see him today and he put me on a different BP med. (Altenolol) and told me to STOP the potassium. Go figure. So I guess THAT answeres my question about potassium levels that are too high.

I was wondering if there are any potential dangers of mixing water pills with alcohol. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.
