Gatifloxacin FAQ
What is the price of 5mL of ZYMAR (gatifloxacin ophthalmic solution) 0.3%?
I have scratched corneas (both of 'em) and once in a while they scratch the inside of the eyelid, when that happens, it hurts like hell. I have tried putting a patch on it but it only makes it worse. I have been to some of the best eye surgeons in NYC and they all said that you can't really heal this, the scratches on both corneas are there to stay for the life time. What they couldn't explain was why do they scratch the inside of the eyelid (one doctor said it's because the scratch gets infected and gets swollen and it causes abrasion inside the eyelid). I see a black spot on a light bulb while I have the problem, when it goes away the vision is fine. I keep the eye open and although it hurts upon blinking it heals it over time. Big problem is when I go to sleep it scratches inside the eyelid and I am back to zero the next morning with a lot of pain. I use gatifloxacin eye drops (pretty harsh so I don't use 'em unless I need them). As a doctor would you see a permanent solution to this? Some opthalmologist said I should get diamond pollish (that's what he said is the name of the surgery is). I didn't feel comfortable with it so I haven't done it. The eye surgeon in new york also said to stay away from any laser (lasik or similar) surgeries as that could cause blindness. I am also told to never wear contact lenses. They put bandage lense when I go for treatment but the doctor takes it out when the medication has improved the situation. Any information or help is appreciated. If you think there's a doctor out there who can help, please let me know. As many different doctors described, the reason why the corneas don't heal is because I have scratches underneath the protective skin on top of the cornea. I do get what you said sometimes, especially in winter when the heater is on and eyes get dry, I wake up in the morning and open the eyes and the pain is just unbearable. Other times it just starts out as little uncomfortable and the abrasion gets worse if I don't put the eye drops. Are you qualified to do those treatments? where are you located? Thank you for your answer, it seriously means a lot to me.

I can only tear up in one eye now?Last week I went to my optometrist due a prolonged eye problem. For about 2 weeks now, my right eye has been very red, and irritated. However, it is not itchy at all. Another thing was, my right eye would get sudden 'blur spots' as if there was a piece of lint ontop of my pupil, however there's nothing there. The doctor said I had a minor eye infection and gave me some medicated eye drops (Zymar--gatifloxacin opthalmic solution 0.3%) The doctor said my eyes should clear up by Sunday, but it's already Tuesday and it hasn't gotten much better. (It hasn't gotten worse either, it's just.. the same.) However I've noticed that when I yawn I only tear up in my right eye. (Usually I tear up in both.) It's strange because my right eye is the one that has the infection, yet my left eye (non-infected) doesn't tear up at all. I haven't cried yet, but I'll let you know what happens. :P Should I be overly concerned? I plan to return back to the optometrist in a week. (Only time I can) I'm pretty sure it's not allergies, because well. I've never had problems with allergies. Even if I did, pollen count isn't high currently. Also, I do wear glasses (to drive) and do NOT wear contacts. I don't think it's a scratched cornea because the 'blur spot' constantly appears, then disappears.
Has anyone had to put Zymar (gatifloxacin) in their pets eye(s)?One of my cat's eyes is half shut and it has a yellow discharge (puss). I am wondering if it's ok to put Zymar (antibiotic eye drops) in his eye until I cant get him to the vet. Serious answers only please. Thank-you.
