Diclofenac FAQ
A 48-year-old man is brought to the emergency department by his wife after obtaining a blood pressure reading of 234/142 mm Hg on a home blood pressure monitor. In the emergency department, his blood pressure is 236/144 mm Hg. The patient states that he has always had poorly controlled blood pressure. He also states that he took medication for a migraine headache 2 hours earlier. Which of the following medications did he most likely take? A. Diclofenac potassium B. Ergotamine C. Methysergide D. Propranolol E. Sumatriptan i guessed d. note: i am in my 1st semester of med school and do step 1 prep qs in my spare time. often, i will be able to make an educated guess, provided the qs are not histo or pharm related. any help would be appreciated.

What can I do to relieve severe, constant headaches without medication?I have had a constant headache for the past three years, it's always there and it doesn't go away. I am in and out of the doctors/hospital but so far no one can explain the cause of them. My doctor has tried to give me relief whilst the headaches are investigated, but i seem to have a really bad tolerance to medication. Nearly everything doesn't work or makes me sick. Can anyone advise any other things i can do to relieve them? I'm not talking about lying in a dark room with a flannel on my head, they're are too severe for that to have any affect. Are there any herbal things i can take, or activities i can do? anything at all? thanks p.s. I don't know if it helps but in case it does, the medication i have been on are: Diclofenac sodium - Didn't help the headaches at all and gave me an upset stomach. Pizotifen 1.5mg - The only thing that has helped reduce the severity of the headaches without nasty side effects, but i built an immunity to them very quickly. Propranolol 20mg - Made me extremely ill. Anything codeine based - Makes me extremely ill. Amitriptyline 20mg - Am on this at the moment, it doesn't do much for the headaches and makes me feel on edge and sick, on only 20mg!
what would cause my feet to burn intensely?I was in an accident and had to have a russel taylor nail put in, ever since i have no feeling round the knee, yet it hurts like you have no idea, it is severely disabling and i can barely walk most days and now my feet have been getting so hot they feel as though they are on fire and it keeps me awake, its bad enough not getting to sleep because of the leg pain but this too, i am going out of my mind and its agony.....I am also on a massive painkiller mix to try ease the pain, i am perscribed a cocktail of a few drugs that are suppose to work with each other to help me be pain free but i never am,even the lightest touch will send my leg into screaming agony. I am on, ametryptaline, baclofen, diclofenac, dihydrocodiene 120mgs mr, pregabolin, dihydrecodeine 30mgs = 1-2 tablets every 4 hrs, Oramorph liquid 10mgs in 5mls every 4hrs, I am also on antidepressants, Efexor 225mgs daily, so why dont i feel any better, some days the mix works and some days it doesnt and I am left not being able to even help myself round the house and end up weeing myself when i cant get upto the toilet in time which is up 10 stairs which i can only do really slowly, oh help please this is ruining my life, socially, emotionally, sexually with my husband and of course living with chronic pain is disabling in itself without all the other stuff going on, heeeeeeelp plz
Should my medication be changed?Just yesterday I was diagnosed at the hospital with having whiplash and the doctor just described exercises for me to do and prescribed me 2mg diazepam, 50mg diclofenac and 8/500 co-codamol. The diclofenac and co-codamol really help with the pain in my head neck and shoulders, but now after taking it a couple of times my stomach's been complaining when I take them. Also, the diazepam doesn't really seem to do much more than make me extremely sleepy very quickly. Should I still take them or should I go to my doctor and ask to have something different?
