Why does my throat itch and I have a cough with strep throat?

I've read there is no 'cough' with strep throat. I have it presently, and tested positive via a rapid strep test just the other day. I've had it about 1.5 months ago, too. My throat is itching a lot, my vocal cords are all congested and make me sound super hoarse. I coughed up a bloody ball of phlegm about the size of a quarter the other day....it resided in the area between my nasal cavity/sinuses and throat. My throat itching and hurting all of the time makes me cough a lot. I'm on Cephalexin 500mg twice a day for 10 days. For the previous infection, it was Penicillin in the same dosage and length. When will my voice come back? Why do people say there is no cough? It seems to itch as it is healing, and also makes me cough a lot (3rd day of antibiotics for my present case). People have told me that it doesn't sound like I have strep throat ...yet the doc tested it and I tested positive recently and also for the time before. I have white patches that stretch the length of my upper throat muscles, and I also a few white bump things on my tonsils. People tell me that doesn't seem like strep throat because they haven't seen patches before. Is it REALLY that elusive that people don't seem to realize or know symptoms in general?

so i've been taking this antibiotic long term for about 2 months now. i've been having on and off mouth sores but i didn't think it was related to this antibiotic until yesterday. i read on a few web sites that if i get it to contact my doctor immediately. well they aren't answering the phone. what does this mean? how concerned should i be. of course i stopped taking it.

I had strep throat at the end of March. I have it again now (confirmed both times by a rapid strep test). I got on antibiotics a lot sooner this time. I was on Penicillin VK 500mg twice a day for 10 days last time. Now I'm on Cephalexin 500mg twice a day for 10 days, because of the recurring case. I have had a lot more cough related to this one than I remember with the first time. Yesterday I had a big mass of bloody phlegm about the size of a quarter come out. I lost half of my voice and became extremely hoarse for all of yesterday. I'm getting it back now, thankfully (I work in Retail sales at Atlanta airport, and it's hard to hit your numbers if you can barely speak...not to mention people think something is wrong with you.) I took a day off from work for the 24-hour contagious period after taking the medicine, but was cleared by the doc to return to work yesterday. I've taken antibiotics for 5 pills now. I was coughing a LOT this morning while trying to sleep, after 4 pills for the past two days. My throat has been itching and tingling, but also hurting so badly in the mornings when trying to sleep. During the day, it doesn't seem to hurt as much. Even before I've brushed my teeth or done anything to numb the pain in my throat. Being up and awake makes it hurt 'less' for some reason. But why? Changed my toothbrush, got a new pillow, washed sheets and covers.

I got a staph infection drained 7 days ago and have been on the antibiotics Doxycycline (first 3 days 200mg then last 7 100mg) and Cephalexin (500mg 4 times a day) since then. I already have a trip planned and paid for to go to Vegas in 2 days. If I drink alcohol the last day I'm on these antibiotics, is it really going to effect how they work? Lets say I drink 5 hours after taking the pills, is it ok to drink alcohol then? How long do these drugs stay in your system once you have finished the prescription? I am just trying to figure out what I should do while I'm in Las Vegas. Anyone who knows what they are talking about please respond. Thank you. When i say drained I mean my arm was cut open a little and the doctor drained out the pus and blood that was caused from the staph. This was on May 14th and that is when I started taking Doxycycline and Cephalexin. My first 3 days I took two 100mg pills twice a day of Doxy. Then the last 7 i take one 100mg pill twice a day of Doxy. With the Cephalexin, I take four 500mg pills each day for 10 days.
